What to expect when living in Hutto, Texas

One of the most vibrant communities in the Austin area, Hutto, Texas, is a small but quickly growing city that still maintains its cozy, small-town charm. It’s hard to imagine a better place to raise a family.

Hutto, Texas, was little more than a remote railroad depot when it was founded in 1876 along the newly laid tracks of the International-Great Northern Railroad. Times have definitely changed since then! Hutto has grown to become one of the most family-friendly cities in Central Texas, and there’s a lot you can expect to enjoy when you make your home in Hutto.

Classic Americana

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Commercial Historic District at the heart of downtown Hutto looks like a picture-book image of the Old West. The only difference is that instead of dusty saloons, modern shops and eateries line the streets, drawing a lively lunch crowd on any given day. What’s more, the nearby Old Town district features many buildings dating back to the 1800s.

Great schools

Hutto is home to the acclaimed Hutto Independent School District, which has been recognized as one of the best in the region. This district maintained the highest attendance record in Central Texas last year, and 100% of its high school seniors applied to college.

An easy commute

While Hutto, Texas, feels like a small town, it is just 30 minutes away from downtown Austin. Major corridors like U.S. Route 79, Texas State Highway 130 and Interstate 35 make it quick and easy to get back and forth.

Wide-open spaces

Austin may be close by, but you’d never know it. The open landscape of the Texas Hill Country is in full view from Hutto. Just outside the city limits, you’ll find rolling hills, forests and farmlands as far as the eye can see.

Excellent shopping and dining

Whether you want to hit the mall or browse the little shops in downtown Hutto, you’ll find plenty of shopping options. Hutto’s HEB Plus is one of the best grocery stores around, and you can get the freshest produce of the season at the Hutto Co-Op Farmers Market. When you’re in the mood to dine out, you have numerous options, from Tex-Mex and Thai to classic Austin-style barbecue.

Recreation aplenty

Parks and trails all over town provide plenty of space to enjoy the great outdoors, whether you’re looking for a place to walk your dog, go for a run or have a picnic in the shade. Be sure to check out the network of trails throughout Fritz Park and nearby Creekside Park. You can also experience numerous fun-filled festivals throughout the year, including the annual Crawfish Festival and Summer Concert Series.
